World building part two growing up moving forwards and moving on.
The players will still be centrally located in The City which is its name. The aliens coined it and even though the war is long over the name stuck and people have moved on. It is the city of tomorrow with over 65% new construction it is a glittering spire of progress that has the devil’s den attached to it like a larger cancerous lump. Yay Cancer!
Game play is going to take place roughly a year or so after the last campain took place and some things have happened. Note! While you will be centerally located in The City and while lots of action will take place there, more and more stuff will be happening around the country and world that you will be forced to deal with. So having either a base with a world class travel power, or a couple of people with world class travel powers and transportational abilities is recommended. It can be in the city, in a volcano, or even a satilite floating above the earth. Do keep in mind though is that the first few game sessions will be city based and then we will spread out from there. So don’t expect to go everywhere at the same time.
Laws and things to be concerned about:
Shangri-La technology along with Alien technology is highly illegal and possestion of such technology will mean that you will be extradited to either group and never heard from again. This is part of both the non agression pact signed with Shangri-la and the peace treaty that was made with the aliens. The aliens do have a technical exchange program with Shangri-La as a result both groups maintain a significant technical advantage over the rest of the world.
In all actuality this persecuted rather laxly. When a man in a funny looking costume and a gadget that is clearly alien in origin starts commiting a few crimes around town an alien warship doesn’t just appear over the city and begin raining death down upon the land. Nor does a Shangri-la hit team show up and quietly takes care of the problem. Instead it is up to the governments to catch the criminals and every so often the aliens or Shangri-la will saber rattle and demand satisfaction and they usually get it because of who they are.
How do the arms dealers get their weapons is one of those things that is “under investigation” but no one is sure just how thoroughly.
Church of the Breaking Dawn- Jesus was a mistake. Just like the rapture being on May 21st. It makes sense you know. People all throughout history have believed they were someone else, usually napoleon. This guy thought he was Jesus and he happened to have super heroic powers. Then another Jesus who sported a luchador mask and a laser rifle showed up. Then another man who claimed he was jesus died while trying to convince a group of Furies that their sacred bat wasn’t sacred. The church, disgraced ,officially disbanded. However, Jesus still walks the country and he is getting people to follow him. He is preaching an anti super powered movement and more and more people are starting to follow him. As of yet his plans are unknown but there is something very strange going on within the ranks of the New Breaking Dawn.
Or at least that is what has officially happened. Rumor has it that they just staged all of this stuff and that they have actually gone underground. To what end no one is certain and where they went is certainly a mystery and the false Jesus’ involvment is all unknown. What is known is that the false jesus is roaming around the Midwest gathering followers. At the moment he seems harmless and while many people believe he belongs in a hospital he is instead the butt of many jokes on the talk shows and since he has commited no real crime they leave him alone. However, there is the fear that his madness will come to a head.
Nazi Dolphins- Dolphins are jerks,. They always have been and they always will be. The whole race has gone back to the sea and they are still following the precepts of Nazism. Something big happened though and they don’t seem to have the same force or abilities that they once did. They opaque, grey domes are still under the sea at impossible depths. For now they’ve gone quiet but it is strongly suspected that they are reaching out slowly and carefully. There have been daring lightning raids that have the dolphins signature technology written all over it. What they are planning or what they are even doing is anyone’s guess. One thing is for certain is that things won’t be quiet for long.
The other thing is for certain is that the globe trotting trio who did their best to make the lives of the Try Hards miserable are no longer part of the Dolphin establishment. The three of them are almost always seen together and they appear to be cut off from the ocean. Months after the Nazi event they were seen expelled from the ocean and when they tried to reenter their suits wouldn’t allow them. All attempts to communicate with them have failed mostly because they wouldn’t stop shooting at the people trying to talk to them. They were last seen around Mexico.
In unrelated news the polution in the ocean has started to drop dramatically and no one can figure out why. And now the weather. Trish?
Nazi Humans- They are around. Where? No one is certain. Some think they are living deep within alien controlled territory. Others think they are traveling around china in a secret moving base. Other people think they are living in the moon, and that they have been hollowing it out ever since the end of ww2 with the intensions of creating their own paradise up there. Whatever the case may be just as the dolphins have made their presence more known the human Nazis have all but fled the earth.
The Super Heroic Sport League
With jail not really an option a company took an idea posed by the super hero group The Try Hards and ran with it. The Sport League is broken up into two groups. There is the all sport gladiatorial arena spectacular. With its stunning mix of capture the flag, and gladiatorial fighting comes the new super powered, super sports areana. There are now about a dozen arenas scattered all over the world that feature everything from zero g environments to, open fields, to underground caverns surrounded by lava, to massive industrial complexes compliments of abandoned alien bases. Now super powered individuals have a chance to strut their stuff on the field of battle. All of the contests are deemed non lethal but accidents have been known to happen on occasion.
Then there is a the all villian societal reinforcement league. Instead of controlled sports areanas the villians are set loose upon a controlled part of the world, and assigned a certain task or series of tasks that will make that part of the world a better place. Sometimes it is using super science to relieve a drought stricken area, or other times it is controlling a wildfire that has spread out of control. With every success they have they are able to remove some of their sentences. The more dangerous the task, and the faster they complete it the more time gets reduced. It is hoped that by showing these people the value of doing good that they will be compelled to commit more acts of good in the future,. While it isn’t as popular as the Gladitorial arenas it does have a decent sized dedicated fan base.
Jail.
Don’t worry about it. It is somewhere and it has some serious nullification ability. UN run. It is like Guantonamo before everyone started talking about it.
Tesla- Has gone underground since his release from the Nazi’s clutches. He is possibly running for his life. Both he and his grand daughter have disappeared. No one misses them.
Circ Du Strange- They have recentenly, as in the past two months just prior to the games start become far more active in the world. To what ends no one knows. The circus has always been a mysterious organization that has undergone many name changes throughout its long colorful history. Now that the world seems to be changing more rapidly than ever they have started taking greater part in it. No one is certain what to think about this except that everyone is nervous. Of course their intensions are completely unknown and it could be anything from their secret hidaway being damaged by the recent events to a shadow civil war happening in the world of magic behind the scenes. Either way something is up with them and it will all be revealed soon.
Recently a new wave of crime has been hitting the city as new untested supervillians are coming in from all over to try and make their mark. With the Try Hards gone the Devil’s Den has refortified itself. A couple of heros have come to try and clean it out, one was later seen under the Death Dealer’s Control, the other two became part of one of the Button’s monstrosities. And it has very distinctly become one of the countries lost areas. Other criminals are moving in hoping to make their mark free to operate now that no one is around to stop them. No one except for…?

[MandM] Devil's Den
15 years is a good place to have an alien invasion, cause that will work with some of the other ideas I have. Also Mob Town is on an island seperated off from the city a little bit, three miles in fact. Since the island itself is a major international shipping hub there are plenty of routs both on and off the island.
How does the tunnel system and a coastal town work? Fluid Dynamics. Don't look to much into it cave battles are exciting and you guys didn't buy a way to travel internationally. So deal. If it makes you feel better the majority of the cave system happens on the other side of town which is where Devil's den, the FAR side of town and the city itself is well above sea level. Fuck yeah wind swept cliffs. Okay this topic no longer interests me.
Devil's Den. Man I wish I thought of another name for this place. To late now though cause we are kinda stuck with it. Devil's Den is huge. How huge? Huge enough to fit 5 gangs comfortably. It is cool the poor people always make up the majority of the city. I don't really care. It is less of a burrow and more of a cressent that forms the outskirts of the city. I should consider suburbia...done considering suburbia. It doesn't excist just like in comics. You'll end up there someday.
Some General Notes on Devil's Den: Devil's Den has always been a shit hole, and it has always been under the control of a variety of gangs for as long as anwayone can remember. The mafia control the island and they distribute drugs and guns into Devil's Den. Now recently enhancement drugs have been making it into the den making the average ganger into something more than human and thus more than most average cops are willing to handle.
Okay the gangs of Devil's Den
Suburban Knights- They call themselves something diffrent, but no one really cares. The Suburban Knights aren't really a proper gang but rather a group of concerned citizens who have banded together to deal with the growing threats that is a result of the rampant crime threatening the city. They believe that by taking and controlling territitory within the Devil's Den that they can keep the streets safe. The problem? Well they are all about lethal tactics, highly lethal. They also don't feel to bad about collateral damage.
The gang itself mostly consists of veterans from the alien wars. In truth most of them don't really care very much about stopping crime or keeping the city safe. They mostly just like to fight. Most of the territory they hold is centered around alien strongholds which provide them tactical positions that allow them to strike quickly and retreat back to their strange suburban homes. Their uniform is a suit with a plain black ski mask which makes them extremely visible in the wilds of Devil's Den and at the same time they can blend into the scenery anywhere else in the city.
Suburban Knight territory is run with an iron first. People live in constant fear of doing something that might set off one of the Suburban Knight "guards". The majority of them a fairly unstable and as a few of them start to get older they being to exparament with body modification increasing their, speed, strength, and toughness. On averager all the member of the Knights are well triained, if a little bit unbalanced. For the most part the people who live in the Devils Den celebrate when heros or the cops chase the Knights out of an area.
They don't have one set area where they can always be found, they tend to move around a lot showing up where they think they are needed the most.
Furies- Ever see the Warriors and you wondered what was up with the guys that had the green face paint and baseball bats? Well the guy who started the furies decided to find out for himself. No one really knows how it started. Some people think it was just a bunch of scared kids who were banding together for protection. Other people think it was a mentally unbalanced guy who decided to reinact the lives of the supporting charecters from The Warriors. The start of the story isn't known. What is also unknown is how he got people to join his gang, or even where they found all their baseball uniforms.
They are around now. And they are here to stay. They do use guns albeit rarely as they prefer to use their bats and baseballs to handle their gangland disputes. As a result they tend to be a bit more heavily modified than the average gang. Just about all of them have a couple of ranks of impervious and some form of super movement which allow them to strike quickly and viciously.
Their centeral area of control is a large park which contains a baseball field and batting cages. They make most of their money with drugs, petty theft, protection, though much like the Suburban Knights they seem more focused on fighting than anything else.
The Buttons- In the mid 90's the state ran out of funding for all the state run mental institutions and as a result the streets became flooded with people who would be much better off locked up. Now most of these people would of quietly self destructed off in peaceful annominitiy. What happened instead is that one doctor turned inmate organized them, fed them drugs, and turned them into a force to be reconded with. One of the smaller gangs Buttons turn whatever area they are in control of into a toilet. Operating with a scorched earth mentality they will take an area, own it, and reign death and terror down on everyone who tries to live there. They make the majoity of their money on human trafficking, turning the people within their territory into slaves, some of which are sold off overseas for huge amounts of money.
The members of the gang look... distinctive. As distinctive as possible in fact. Also as a result of the doctor having some advanced chemical knowlage he is able to make cheap bathtub versions of many of the advanced drugs that are on the streets. Of course these drugs have worse side effects that usual but you'd be hard pressed to find some one in the gang who cares. Many of the Buttons sport horrible mutations or disfigurments and they will often inflict these disfigurments on their victems.
While they have many sources of income one thing they are paticularly known for is their customized porno business. The less said about it the better. Unless you want me to talk about it, then I will say the things to you that are constantly running through my head that I don't normally talk about. When that happens I'll be able to visit Andrew at work. I would SO make his life hell. So lets not.
Death Dealers- It is amazing how easy it is to get people to join a crazy voodoo death cult. This is especially true when you offer hallucingntic drugs that never quite leave you the same once you try them. The gang uses a wide mismash of religions combining satanism, voodoo, and scraps of other things that someone read half a book on. Primarily they deal in specialized hallucinogenic drugs, protitution, magical items and specialized magic services, you know curses and shit. Of course if those magic services don't work out then they will just go and break your target's legs. If nothing they are egalitarian in their methodology.
In general these guys look like they are rejects from the insane clown posse. In truth there are quite a few of them who are rejects from the ICP/Slipknot crowd. Unlike many of the other gangs who use drugs, or sugrical means to enhance their abilities these kids use a variety of magical rituals and deals with unsavory creatures to gain power. Some of the gang members actually get to be quite powerful but since they take dangerous short cuts in their rituals their power usually comes at a terrible price. This gang also employs a few very weak low influence vampires. It is unknown if these are traditional vampires or something made through magic and drugs but it is something that happens.
The Rat Bastards- The Rat Bastards are all those people who you would normally expect to find in a gang. It is a brave new world out there. And all the sudden the hood is filled with people wearing green face paint swinging baseball bats, to guys covered in skulls throwing bolts of magic and summoning demons. And no one want's to talk about what goes on in Fallout. So the old gangs ended up putting aside their diffrences and banding together out of sheer nessesity more than anything else. They tried to call themselves something diffrent, something scary, but the Rat Bastards is what ended up sticking. They are by far the least interesting gang and they know it. So picture a bunch of kids who used to be the terror of the streets who are now just a hodge podge of people lumped together because now subruban knights are the ones doing the drive by shootings. Yeah massive inferiority complex. As a result the Rat Basterds will do just about anything, there is no job they won't take, no drug they won't try, and no one they won't fuck with in order to try and get to be back on top. As a result The Rat Bastards often times provide fodder for both mad scientits and super scientists. What's the diffrence? Yeah I am not sure either. I guess maybe the chance of ending up with nipples for eyes, for SCIENCE!
As a result they will often end up as villian errand boys, if you need several body parts from a variety of animals these are the people who are willing to do it. Most villians have henchmen for this sort of thing, but sometimes it is good to outsource. Also if a villian needs someone who is willing to put on an absolutely idiotic costume, they will usually take at least one stop over by the nearest Rat Bastard hideout. They are a bunch of crazies who are willing to try anything.
The Fly By Nighters: The big 5 are by no means the only game in town. Don't delude yourself. But they are the biggest most immeaidaly reconizable gangs that have their fingers in the most pies. They control large amounts of territory and while the average ganger won't be to much of a threat, the luitentents and other higher ups can end up being quite powerful. The fly by nighters is a catch all term that is used for the smaller gangs, even if the smaller gang in question has been operating for years. In general these gangs are either to small, to under equiped, or to specialized to make any sort of dent in any of the big 5 territories. Some of the fly by nighters are allied with the larger gangs and some of the more dangerous jobs will be shuffled off on to the smaller groups/. Others are well established gangs in other cities that are trying to break into the city. Whatever the case may be I am free to throw whatever I feel like at you gang wise. The above are the 5 that will happen the most often though because one is hilariouse, one is scary, one is magic, one can hurt you, and one explains where all those assholes who wear costumes come from. Okay questions? Ask them in face book.

[M&M] The City
Okay the City!
I want to keep the actual city vauge for now. I am thinking of putting it between Metropolis and Gotham, and Paragon City. Actually Paragon City is prolly the best inspiration I could possibly think of. So minus the war walls obviously.
IMPORTANT THINGS ABOUT THE CITY!
Secret Alien Bases- The city was a major staging point for the Alien invasion as a result there are still hidden stockpiles of alien weaponry hidden all over the city. In addition the Aliens have the technology to fold space, so while something may appear to be a derilict building on the survace, in actuality it is an advanced Alien research center/holding faculty/weapons depot. Most of the alien influence has been hunted down and dismantled but there are still some hidden faculties which are used by the various gangs, corporations, or super scientists who are running about the city. Most of the faculties that are left require a special password to acess or some kind of unique biometric signature.
Cave/Tunnel System- Deep beneath the city is a layer of caves, which have been converted to a tunnel system. Orginally used witches back during the time of Cotton Mather, they were expanded during the 1920’s to aid in the local bootlegging effort. Since then the tunnels have held an illustrious history of being used in escape routs, ambushes, an underground railroad during the alien invasion, and even the source of disaster like in the case of Fallout. There are several acess points into the tunnel system from the street, in the better parts of town they are boarded up or well guarded. In the worst parts of town, they are also boarded up or well guarded. The tunnles themselves are a maze and whenever a villian carves off a bit for himself he will usually close off most of the acess to the surrounding area leaving only one well known way in or out.
Fallout: As mentioned earlier Fallout is a 5 block area on the north side of town that illustrates the dangers of tunnel fighting. No one really knows what happened that day. It could have been two rival villians getting into a spat, a lovers quarrle between two heroes, an alien incursion, or a lab acident. The point is that day something happened and some pretty titanic forces were unleashed and 5 blocks of the city collapsed into a wide pit, and the surrounding three blocks became condemned. The story doesn’t end there though. There were plenty of survivors from the buildings collapsing but some of them came back changed. The skin became sallow, yellowish, their eyes haunted. There are still people who live in the surrounding condemned buildings, mostly only the desperate and the crazy insane. Occationally the police try to clear the area out but with little success. Most people just wisely stay the fuck away from that area.
Mob Town: During the 1920’s the mafia set up shop in the City and while prohibition may have been repealed they never found any shortage of ways to break the law. Today thanks to alien tech, enhancing drugs, and experimental surgery the mob stands at the forefront of organized super villainy. They control a large area down by the docks, and a sort of easy truce has been reached between the police and the citizens of mob town. Very few people actually live in Mob town, for the most part it is warehouses, old or abandoned factories, a few swank night clubs, and a couple of piers. At the moment the mob is so far underground that it is hard to tell where mob town ends and just your general poor neighborhood begins. For the most part though, you need someone connected to organized crime? Then you will find him in mob town somewhere.
The Police: The police of the city have it rough. The tri state area has a squad of super powered operatives which can be called upon in times of great need but for the most part the police are just your average boys in blue trying to make it home at the end of the day. So yes they will still pull you over and write you a speeding ticket even though not 20 feet away there is a giant robot stomping on hippies. This is because the giant robot is bullet proof and some super hero will handle it eventually whereas you are necessary to make quota. In general they are good guys, they do their best to keep civilians out of fight zones and if there is a situation they feel they can handle they will do so. Otherwise they will find super heroes to deal with it. Like I said they are just guys, and people who shoot lasers out of their eyes are beyond their pay scale. This is why Mobtown gets the leeway it does they have just enough powered operatives to leave it in the hands of the powers.
Other Powers: Well there are the players. They are the newest kids on the block in terms of super heroed team ups. They are reasonably well established and blah blah blah who cares players are almost as big of assholes as dolphins. FUCK DOLPHINS. Other than the players there is one other major team who calls the city home but they spend most of their time in another dimension or lost in time. The city is the largest repository of alien tech on the planet other than South Africa so they spend a lot of time screwing around with that. There are anywhere from 7-10 loner type heroes running about the city at any given point in time but they mostly stick to individual neighborhoods or they spend their time chasing down street hoods instead of bashing city wide threats. SO in essence when the fit hits the shan it is the players who get the phone call. There is no one else. Other than the eleit police unit but even they aren’t reliable since they spend a lot of time in other cities. Now nationally there are large Avenger/X-men like groups who run all over the country dealing with things and they can be called upon should a situation turn dire but in game terms dire will mean something like TPK.
The Main City: Most of the people are friendly and receptive to super heros and they recognize that these are people who put their lives on the line when the police are unable/unwilling to do so. IE none of that deconstructionist crap that is so popular now and days.
Devil’s Den: Devil’s den is another area of the city where much like Mob town has fallen to crime. Unlike mob town though this was once a booming residencial district until a variety of things turned it into one of the poorest neighborhoods in the country. Now the streets are rife with drugs, prostitution, and violence. Many of these drugs give people temporary super powers and all of those drugs have terrible side effects leaving badly mutated gangs to fight wars over bombed out buildings and shitty street corrners. Insanely there are still people who live there, multigenerational families who do their best to make live in one of the only areas they can afford to. There are a couple of other slums sprinkled about the city but Devil’s Den is by far the worse. That place is like Detroit bad. Cops don’t go in there unless they got a death wish and good people clear the streets after dark. Currently there are 5 gangs that control different aspects o the den. I could go seven and theme them around the seven deadly sins and I might still do that. I haven’t decided though.
The town also features, a University with an advanced research center, several corporate headquaters including a few from Shangri La, and
I want to keep the actual city vauge for now.

Wold Building for Mutants and Masterminds!
I meant to put this into the licking the subconsiouse blog but then I realized to late that it is going in my main blog. Since cutting and pasting requires extra effort on my part it is staying here. Alright so without further ado, what is the world like that you are going to be playing around in?
'merica!- The default setting will be in a nice large city that is thematically like New York but not actually New York. For a comic book reference think Metropolis. Not the movie the superman city. It is a nice glittering city full of sky scrapers and high powered buisness types. It has some bad sides of town as well and some dark undercurrents but for the most part it is a good place to be. This is in no small part due to the efforts of the super hero community. America has the second largest population of super beings and they are scattered all over the country doing various things like helping with disaters, keeping crime down, and inventing junk that they keep lying around. There are roughly 150 supers operating in America and they come from a wide variety of backgrounds. There are only about 5 AAA super heroes operating in the world at any given time the rest are in alternate dimensions, deep meditation, or off world paroling the solar system. For the most part the people operating on earth are "street level" heroes or heroes that can travel the nation fairly easily. There are a few groups that have full time heroes that never leave their costumes and live in public bases and there are plenty of masked vigilantes who prefer to keep their identity on the down low. For the most part people with powers have a good relationship with civilians, the government, and each other. Also for the most part, that guy with the gun who runs around capping random crooks is considered a villain in his own right and brought down.
The World at Large!
Europe! Europe just sort of hangs out and not a whole lot happens there. There are a few super scientists who call England, France, and Spain home but for the most part Europe is pretty quiet in terms of super hero activity. Much like World War 1&2 they bore the brunt of the alien invasion that happened ten years ago and so they are in a quiet state of rebuilding.
Middle East: The Middle East is still as tense as ever and with pleantly of super scientists coming up with the latest wizbang death ray there is no shortage of buyers thanks to America's need for oil. For the most part major incidences have been headed off by various super groups but really it is only a matter of time before something major goes down. There are also no small number of groups who use the lack of security in the area to do some pretty unspeakable experiments in an attempt to create a super soldier but we won't talk about that because they are unspeakable.
Japan: While Japan doesn't have the largest super population the floating island over Japan does. In the late 50's a group of super scientists from around the world broke off from their respective countries and resettled in a remote island in Japan. For years people didn't hear much of them until one day the island lifted up into the sky and declared itself an independent nation. Since then the island has become home to many shady corporations who do a wide variety of things that would be considered crimes anywhere else in the world. The island itself is protected by an incredibly powerful force field that not even the Aliens were able to breach. No one gets onto the island without permission. It helps to keep the random dogooders away. The island itself is patrolled by a legion of genetically modified clones who have a wide variety of super powers. In many ways it is the safest place in the world, however it is the most dangerous. The leader of the island is considered by many to be dangerously unstable and he has sent forces out more than once to cause havok over real or imagined threats made against him. While there are many who want the island taken down permanently, 90% of all pharmaceutical and technological advances come from them and taking them out would put do far more harm than good.
Africa: Most of Africa is a mess. This is made worse by the fact that the Southern half of Africa has been taken over by the aliens and there isn't a whole hell of a lot that can be done about it. See while earth's armies and super heros were able to drive off the majority of the invading forces thousands of aliens were left stranded on the planet due to mostly us shooting at the retreating invasion fleet. Many were hunted down and killed but many more managed to escape into the jungle. Soon they began building small settlements and terriforming the area around them. With the actual invasion over, and these aliens so far from home they eventually started asking for land, peace, and a chance to live out their natural lives in defeat. Many of course were skeptical and more than 6 nukes were launched at their settlements when the Island stepped in and decided to ensure their safety. To what ends? Nobody knows, but for the most part the aliens have kept to themselves, they don't really communicate with the outside world, and they have made no attempt to grab more territory for themselves. That and they are in Africa and I mean every decade there is at least one drought there, genocide, and human atrocities that would litterally boggle your fucking mind. The world is pretty good at ignoring what's going on in Africa and a bunch of Aliens hanging out in the southern tip is just another thing.
The Group: No one knows who is in the group, or where its main base of operations is. Not much is actually know about them, including their real name. All that is known is that when a new drug hits the streets that temporarily gives you powers, or some sort of ray gun gets into the hands of a few gang members, or when some piece of valuable equipment gets stolen people get caught. Fingers will be pointed, and some will say they got it from that guy, who got it from some other guy, who got it from a supplier out west. Eventually after a long chain occasionally someone will blame a large shadowy organization that no one really knows very much about. Then that person will quickly disappear. Everyone knows that some large criminal organization is out there, the problem is pinning them down and getting any sort of solid information about them. Every once in a long while operatives will do a display of force but none have ever been captured and successfully questioned.
In this world people more than often get their superpowers from scientific accidents, alien/corporate experimentation, or they built themselves a pair of rocket skates and decided to go at it. It is a time of invention much like the renaissance and a time of adventure.
In mystic circles there is talk of a great evil once scourged from the land coming back, dark portents are flooding out from the middle east. Strange lights have been reported on the moon two expedition teams were sent up there one never returned and the other reported nothing. There have been strange stirrings under the ocean and bizzare pieces of scrap metal have been washing up on the shore oh and some guy with a ray gun and a robot suit is robbing a back because that is the most useful thing he could think to do.
ALRIGHT! When I do this next time there will be more information on the Aliens, what they do, and what they are like, and maybe more information on what is going on in Japan. After that I will fill in more details based on questions you ask.

Purple Figments
This might spontaneously end much like the last one. If it does I don't really feel bad about it. I am in a good mood though, a good enough mood that I don't feel like dealing with people. I just sort of want to play my video games, read, and I dunno something else. Its sunday and I hate sundays because everything is closed by the time I get off of work and there are "things" I want to buy. No matter I'll deal with it tomarrow, which is a better time for me anyway. I have a not present present to give to someone. I like giving presents! I don't need a lot of things, just some blank dvd cases and what not. Other people give music or things, and I give out movies. Glorious movies. You know what? Fuck the -ous sound.
Oh so I really want a copy of "A course in modern linguistics" I was flipping through it the other day and it looks neat. I've always wanted a copy of it but every time I see it, it is around 20 bucks which is a large chunk of money that is primarily could be use for a cooler piece of theory. Of course all the books on amazon are really expensive so I don't know what the deal is. Oh well. I'll pick it up someday on a whim and vaugely regret it but not really.
Moving on. People who fry moonpies have problems. Just sayin.
I've been wanting to play through a big clunky roleplaying game. I really want to play persona 3, holy shit that game is so cool. I just don't think I want to devote the 80 hours it would take to beat it into the ground. That is some seriouse time to devote to a game. Of course I say that while spending at least an hour a night on kingdom of loathing, or a couple of hours on dungeon fighter, but it is diffrent with persona. There is a lot of extended concentration involved, and to be honest? The whole time limit thing sort of stresses me out. That is the main thing that is holding me up. That's kind of a lame reason but whateva.
Oh oh oh, I need to remind myself to go to the eye doctor on wensday, or maybe tuesday afternoon. Hell I should totally wake up early and just do that. Since I am reusing my frames it shouldn't be all that expensive. Its been an expensive month for me and the glasses thing is kinda unanticipated. I also need to get an oil change and some general maintenance stuff. Oh well. I guess no new toys for the next couple of months. Huh it isn't often I write about money. Most times I have more than enough and it is nothing more than an abstract concern to me. I don't really spend that much money on STUFF. It is just that by not spending money I don't even have to think about it. Now that I have to I am annoyed.
Oh well my battery is about to die, I left my power cord at home, and I am nearly out of things to say. Well that is not true at all, I have all sorts of things I just not for embloggery. Ah well, like I said earlyer I am in a GOOD mood! And hopefully I won't have to deal with a crippling headache tonight.

Nope this is about VTES

So I was doing some neat thinking on the nature of racism, then that lead to the nature of social constructions, non social constructions and people's ablilty to point fingers. Then I started thinking about helpful fictions and the importance of believing certain things in order to strive for something better, like religion without god, then I started thinking about the idea of a middle ground and the way that people seem to specifically avoid it. Then I started thinking about how would I rebuild the world if I were the one to tear it down and still had people listening to me.
I had a suprisingly thoughtful morning. But now I am going to write about Vampire the Eternal Struggle, because I like that game! Also there is a new expansion out and I am excited about it, and let down by it to but that is the nature of excitment. It is a very rare thing to be increadbly, spine tinglingly excited about something and have it live up exactly to your expectations. Wow. I totally need to write a letter to Sasha. Anyway, I got three of the four new starters and about 6 boosters or so. The jury is still out if I am going to pick up a box of it though. I think I might be better off picked up a box of Black Hand or 3rd Edition but whatever I'll figgure that out later.
Of the three starters one is useless, one is compleatly playable, and other other can turn into a beastly bruise bleed deck should I give it the proper tender loving care. I don't really feel like dealing with either of those things for the moment though. Right now I want to spend a few minuts talking about the Baali. At least I think that is how you spend it. See in competative multiplayer games my favorite thing to do in the world is to take a solid stance where I am well on my road to victory and I cheer relentlessly over how no one can do anything about it. Then I like watching an entire table squirm. Sometimes it works out awesomely. More often than not I get curbstomped but that's fun too at the end of the day.
Now this big boy at the top of the screen. Look at that list of disciplins. See unlike the poor Salmadi who have shit discaplins, Obfuscate, Celerity, Daimoinon, and Presence. Protean is just sort of thrown in there as an added bonus. Of course there is one notable downside, it costs a pool to untap him. Oh...oh, yeah right. Infernal. STILL. He can toss out ranged agravated damage like it is candy, and he gives you two pool every time he bleeds. So you use one of those bonus pools to untap him and life is good right? NO! It is better! There is a card called greater curse which will also give you a pool if you bleed, so that's three. It does a bunch of other crap too but the pool gaining only costs basic Daimoinon. In addition if I use Flurry of Action to bleed he untaps! For free! With no horrible paying one pool to do so. Also I think I Celerity has a couple of reaction cards that will let me block if the vampire is tapped, hell some of them might let me untap him.
It gets even better though. THere is some card called calling the legion or some such thing which I can toss down and slap on three blood from the blood bank on any infernal vampire I want. What I need to do is diverify my crypt a bit. I need to make sure I am able to get my superstar unnamable out of torpor should he end up in it. He more than likely will holy crap. The other downside? Well I am get to be big loud and scary! Its fun! More on this later.

VTES-The Next Generation
So the other night I got to play a game of VTES. It went really well and I had a lot of fun. Though not everyone was particularly into it. I'll have a talk with that person later though. All in all it was great fun.
I was using a Followers of Set deck. It has some stealth/bleed, prescense block avoidance stuff. I really liked the deck, and all in all I felt that it preformed excellently. I am thinking of taking Tempation out of the deck. I need to see it in action a little bit more though. The main benifit of temptation over corruption counters is that it is based on the blood left on the actual vampire not its cap. So it prevents players from draining them for varying purposes, and a little light combat will make them think twice about using it. All in all I am excited about the card I just got it at an inconvenient time, or rather I got all three of them at an inconvenient time.
My prey was using an Assemtite deck. I am actually kinda disappointed with how it preformed. My Assemtite deck is scary. SCARY!!!! I does fuck tons of aggravated damage, including Nizzam al-Latif. He is NEAT and he is only 9 cap and yeah good guy all in all. The assemite deck really needs some more 5 caps for support or something. I dunno he wasn't really into the game at all and so I wasn't able to judge my decks effectiveness. Boo my project is to make an Assemite/black hand contract sodomy deck. It could be amazing! I'll do it in a bit though. He kept tapping out to beat on his prey which left me open to relentlessly hammer on him. I ended up bleeding him for 7 in one turn thanks to dreamworld and him being tapped out. Oh well. I didn't oust him though more on that latter.
Next around the table was a Tzimisce wall deck. Or it was supposed to be a wall deck, it didn't do much walling though. To be fair the player using it is new to these sorts of games and VTES is like throwing him in head first so, that and his predator was on a relentless kamakazi run so he could play video games. So I dunno. Then when I was sitting next to him his defense was largly ineffective. Also he gimped himself, because he wouldn't throw away his hand full of master phase cards. So that needs to be played again.
Okay so off to the star of the game my Ventrue voting vote fuck off you voty bastard deck. Now I guarantee that the deck wouldn't of been able to do half the shit it did had its predator been doing his job. Then again, I think he would of just table talked his predator into staying RIGHT THERE because he knew I was coming for him. So not once but fucking twice TWICE! He stole my kill using Kine Rescources Contested twice. Bullshit! So I couldn't get my 6 pool which caused my predator to oust me twords the end of the game. He ended up winning solidly. He also nearly killed me using Neonate Breech. Fuck that deck. When it came around for him to be my prey I only had two pool left, and he had 7. I couldn't stop one of my predator's vampires, so it was an all or nothing full frontal assault. I got my first bleed through which was pretty massive bringing him down to 4, then I got another bleed off which brought him down to two, and my last bleed brought him down to one. One pool left. Then at the end of my turn I discarded hoping to draw something to either let me bounce the bleed or save myself. Instead I drew the one card I would of needed to win the game. Ah well so it goes.
Then there was the Torredor deck. That poor deck. It is designed to be a tool boxy bruise bleed deck. It would of worked much better had I given it some bleed cards, and moar sniper rifles. Also I need more camera phones. Camera phones are the thing that would make that deck sing like a mother fucker. After all Camera phone+flurry of action equals horribleness. It started out well by fameing up a vampire who was across the table from him. That vampire quickly got sent to torpor. What all of us didn't expect was how long that guy was willing to let that vampire sit in torpor. That one pool a turn really starts to add up, especially with pressure from my prey. In fact that vampire never did get out of torpor, instead someone else played fame and the original control declined to contest it. The whole thing felt designed to screw with me. Anyway after I was ousted the Torredor deck just couldn't put up enough pressure on the Ventrue. Then the Ventrue player used Consanguineous Boon freak drive and Consanguineous Boon again. That gave him a solid enough lead so that he could eventually chip away at the Torredor player.
Anyway so for the most part the game is a blast and I can't wait to play again. All of these decks were mine so I plan on tweeking most of them for better efficiency. Yeah I am a one man VTES play group go me go!
Something else
Woo! Okay so I was going to write this blog entry about the whole over parenting, Time's take on it, my take on it, and the hidden problem of under parenting, but really? REALLY? I just don't feel like it. So instead I am just going to write about whatever comes to mind.
First of all! My mom gave me a 100 dollar gift card to B&N which is going to comic books and theory. Then I promised myself I get a $150 from my christmas bonus to spend on comic books and other things. So ultimatly I am going to have lots and lots of stuff to read. I'm going to get a lot of really weird stuff, preorder things that haven't come out yet, and promethia which is something I'm really excited about. I don't own enough stuff by Alan Moore and someday soon that will change. Also I am going to get more hellboy. Hellboy is such a retardedly awesome series.
Next I am eagerly awaiting for the next V:TES expansion to come out. Once I get the starters from that I'll have enough suitable decks together that I can get people to start playing it with me again. I really really like V:TES and I know that once everyone else gets the actual game mechanics down they will to. I just need to make sure that there are no Stealth Bleed decks, and that everyone has an idea of how to use their decks, then it will go much better. Its strange, it really is an amazingly complex game when you start taking everything into effect. Right now I have 3 solid decks, 2 amazing stealth bleed deck, 1 more deck that will be amazing when I buy another starter, and a project deck. So with the help of the next expansion we will be set. Then we will try that shit again.
Arcane Legions! Well that went awesomely well. I am going to try and get with James latter and when we meet with Tyson over the break we can play some more. Next time we are definatly using those victory point places. I think the game works much better with those. Also I am bringing a tape measure to make sure we have an appropratly sized table. Once we get a few games like that under our belts then we can start messing around with senarios. THAT is when the game is going to get really fun. I'm hoping that the Hobby Centeral place will get more stuff in soon. I want to get Egyptian boosters from there, and James really wants to finnish his army. However, if they drag their feet for to long then back to the internet I go. Oddly enough this is one of the few things that isn't just cheaper to buy online.
SLA! SLA Industries stuff is going well. Pretty soon we'll be able to play. Before we do I want to rewrite the stress rules a bit, and then we will use the one shots to balance them out. The stress system is a truely brilliant way of simulating how stressful of a world SLA industries is, and I really want to use it, without all the idiotic book keeping that the actual system imposes. I think I got it though. I also want to roll out someone who I think is the coolest god damned villian ever. I've come up with some pretty impressive people over the years, but cuntface? Oh yeah he is definatly going to be a winner, I can tell. I'm kinda amazed I didn't come up with it sooner.
This whole week has been nothing but irreparable disruptions. So hopefully next week I'll be able to get back to work on the things that matter to me. Like the post modern pornography project, and SLA. Okay well that's me signing off now.

Filling of the Sausage Reprise
SO! It is funny how quickly things work out sometimes. Last time I did a filling of the sausage blog I was writting about how I wanted a game to play when Arkham was either to much to put up or break down, or just to prevent Arkham burn out. Last Night on Earth was presented to me and I gotta say it is a pretty fun game, however not my style. I do have plans for my Christmas bonus, I really want comic books though so we'll see I guess.
Anyway the game I discovered is called Arcane Legions. Yeah I know, I cringe just a little bit every time I type that in because it is a pretty stupid name but we'll work through that. The premise is that the year is 36 BC or something close to that. Marc Anthony and Cleopatra are fighting with Rome and I don't remeber how the Han dynasty fits in (Chinese) but it does. What do you want I am a little foggy on history. Anyway all that stops mattering when the night of mists happen and mythological beasts begin roaming the land and magic becomes a thing that happens now. It is a miniature war game on a pretty grand scale, and it brings the right combination of ease and cool factor to the table.
For example the romans have a calvery unit that is on bears. BEARS! People mounted on BEARS! That is made of exciting. The Egypitians have undead folks and who doesn't love the undead! Serial killers that's who. Oh yeah and the Chinese have all sorts of awesome things. I love chinese mythology so I am good to go.
The game is dead easy to teach and it looks to be incredibly friendly to new wargamers. It also has some of the best interpretation mounted archers I have ever seen in my entire life. This is because you are allowed to move, then shoot, then move again, along with other variety of orders. Also you are allowed to shoot into hand to hand combat which is fantastic. So you can use calvery units to anchor an enemy unit in place then use your horse archers to run up and do the pin cushion thing. Essentially this is a game that has been desighned by people who really know how to make a war game enjoyable and I can't bloody wait to start playing. Oh heh yeah the price is something that simply can not be beaten.

Nerd Invasion
So let's try this again.
Last friday night was an event called Nerd Invasion, saturday night I held my own event called holy shit I am going to sleep, Sunday night was zomg I need to get my ass in gear novel wise, and now it is monday morning. There is a hurrican on its way but I is really no more than a baby hurricane and it is something that I just can't be bothered to get up in arms about.
So nerd invasion. Man now that was something. To be honest for awhile I didn't want to go to it. It looked stupid, small, and poorly organized. It most definatly wasn't wrong about the second two things but despite everything it most certainly wasn't stupid. Over the course of the last two days it has gotten me thinking about the ups and downs of geek culture and just how much I enjoy it.
It is said, by Socrates I believe, that you can learn more from someone in an hour of play than you can from months of conversation. I absoluely believe this to be the case, I know I've played with enough people to know that the way they conduct themselves during a game is fundamentally tied to thier charecter. That aside, there is also the deisre to play. The want to try new things, be challanged in diffrent ways, to set aside the division between competition and fun and just bloody enjoy yourself for an evening.
That said nothing is perfect. Tempers occationally flaired, and since nothing started on time the whole thing became an unending series of small disasters for the coodinators. But I wasn't one of those people. I was there to have fun. So was everyone else. There is a fundamental diffrence between a large gathering of geeks and normal people. Maybe the low testosterone and lack of sexual sleaze makes for a more relaxed environment, maybe it has to do with the fact that everyone in the room had at least 1 hobby and enjoyed talking about it, maybe it is because most of us have not forgotten how to laugh and have fun. I really don't know what it was. However, geek gatherings both large and small have a certain energy, life, and beauty to them that gathering of normal people just plain lack. At times it almost saddens me, even the girl who spent half the night sitting in the corrner playing her DS seemed to be having more fun that the guy who sits at a bar all night staring into space. Oh well.
It was a good time, a time where I hatched plots to change the world, talked to strangers, laughed, and truely felt accepted far more so than anywhere else. It was a good time and I hope it comes back to see us again sometime.
HIGHLIGHTS!
-The cat eared girl. Man other people do cocain to be more like this person. She was crazy, but in a good fun way. She had a whole bunch of glitter in her purse that she wanted to wear but didn't for fear of being mocked as a twilight vampire. I loudly decalred that it is time we take back glitter from twilight and with her unusual amount of excitment I ended up covered in glitters! It was awesome! Then anytime I walked within a 5 foot radius of her she would run, grab me, and drag me over to her covnversation to explain the glitter thing which was pretty cool.
- "Oh hey Mike good your here start moving these tables". To put this in perspective earlyer I had asked my friend if I volunteered to help did I have to pay to get in. He didn't know but he assumed we still had to pay. So I stayed at home. So when I show up in my suit I get let in before everyone else, because I am in a suit, and I end up moving tables and chairs around. Oddly enough, this isn't the first time I ended up rediculously nicely dressed while moving furniture. Last time though I was in a prom dress which makes it slightly more fabulose.
-That 13 year old. So I spent 2 hours gaurding a door because thats how late they were starting the music. As a result a large group of my friends gathered by the door + extra people hoping to get in. One person was this girl who we immeadiatly made friends with, talked to, and generally had fun with. After about a half hour someone realized she is still hanging around us, she is having fun, and we didn't know her name. Perfect for anime club, despite her age. Still hopefully she will come.
-In the same category of the 13 year old is Pirate Rae. I have no idea what her real name is, but what a fun little person. She apparently does voice acting for anime! But I didn't learn that until 4 in the morning when we were hanging out for the second time. I'm glad I met her though. Her friend was really nice to and was apparently all into me. Compleatly failed on picking up on that though which resulted in varying amounts of hilarity later on.
-Sean and I started to hatch a plot to make the world a better place. It was 5:30 in the morning and I was trying to go home. Yeah the event lasted from 7pm to 12 the next day. I didn't really start to slow down until 4. Anyone who says geeks don't do it longer and harder is an idiot. Anyway, we got to talking about the need for a centeralized meeting space for liberals to gather, in person, on a weekly basis, to discuss things like messages themes and ideas. There will be a specific blog entry on this subject later. It does directly have to do with gay marriage being repealed in Maine. Something might come of it. Nothing might come of it. However, for one half hour between 5 and 5:30 in the morning the two of us started hatching a plan to make this world a better motherfucking place. I just think that that sort of dialoge being possible in a place like that is a thing of pure, raw, beauty.
There are many more things I could list but I need to go to work. I just wanted everyone to know that this happened to me and it was grand. It is something I wish everyone could enjoy. Ah well.

Filling the Sausage
That reminds how much I love the musical Le Misrables. It also reminds me that some day, hopefully sooner than later I want to preform a lap dance to Music of the Night. It will involve a blind fold and I think I it would be supremely excellent.
In other news baby laptop can't run Civ4, /sad panda. I kinda knew it couldn't well ahead of time but I couldn't remember if civ 4 required a graphics card or not. Still it will run Alpha Centuri and when it is all said and done that is a better game anyway.
This is going to be a post where I signifigantly geek out. OH Tonight I should post my total novel word count on Twitter, then keep up with things like that because it is fun and it is something I am doing and blah blah blah. Its sad because I am not very happy with it at the moment. I mean it is alright. But I am waaaaaay out of practice writing fiction and it shows. I'm also meandering WAY to much with the story. I like books that meander though so everyone else can go fuck themselves. On friday which is my first and only day off this week I plan on going back and plumping out a few scenes. This isn't editing them so much as it is adding stuff to them to make them more relavent. Also I need to add a few things to variouse scenes to make them match up with what I have planned later, and what I want to write in the first Livejournal entry tonight.
A new game. I want a new game. Here is the thing. I LOVE Arkham horror. I modereratly love Munchkin, and Illuminati is something I love so hard that all I have left is a moderate love for Munchkin. The problem is that while switching back and forth between Arkham and Illuminati is great I fear burnout. So I've been looking for a new game to play, it needs to be 4+ players and it needs to be neat, optimumly it also needs a quick pickup breakdown time. Red Dragon Inn Fits this bill nicely and it can be easily brief cased up, however it is pretty expensive when you consider the actual components you are getting. There is also VTES, which is a collectable card game. However, now that I found a site that sells really cheap singles I should be able to get 6-8 decks up and running quickly and easily. This will be great because the game is best played with 5 people and now I'll have a good combonation of variety and usability. What really frusterates me is that there are a bunch of card games coming out that are close to what I am trying to do with Vampire but they are all resolutly two players which is just plain annoying.
Lastly I want to get into Warmatchine. I love the minatures, the setting is okay, and the rules seem fun. The problem? In the first edition of the rules they had all these really cool Mech things which they called Warjacks because calling them mechs violates copywrite laws. The game promises that it would be full of epic jack on jack combat, and lets be clear the jack on jack combat is pretty epic. The problem? The most effective armies don't really use Jacks. So fuck that game. Times are changing though. Plastic kits are coming out, and the rules are shifting more twords jack on jack combat again. So WIN! I'll take another look into the game for sure. If not I think I will settle for just making an investment in Monsterpocalypse.

CONFLICT!
So when I sat down today to write this I was going to delete the previouse post and start it again. Writing a blog entry about anything while wrapped in the comfortless arms of a mind crushing migraine is a recipie for failure. That and I couldn't link to the youtube videos I needed to make the whole point about the Beckster make better sense cause I forgot that work blocks youtube.
I also don't feel like writting about the man who was thurday. This is mostly because I don't feel like going and doing the required reading from the book of genesis. That does make sense I promise. So I am here with a brandy new blog post, and I can't really justifying deleting an old one unless I replace it with something better. Like your mom. So bravely we forge ahead.
I want to write about Vampire the Eternal Struggle. I love this game. No seriously I fucking LOVE this game. Last night I fired up boondock saints and just puttered around with deck ideas for three hours. I love how elegant the game system is, how important making deals can be, the fine art of bullying, and how there is a deck type that will cause all players to put aside their other agendas just to beat that player into the god damned dirt. I love how when I tear open a booster I cheer when I get my 20th copy of a card because you need lots and lots of doubles in order to suceed at the game, I love how every card does 2 diffrent things, I love how combat can be raw and terrifying and yet not something at all related to actually winning the game. I love all of these things about it and more. And yet I have a hard time justifying buying more cards. This is partly due to the fact that I have very few people to play with. It is also compounded by the fact that there are complications when it comes to deck building. I can't build one amazing deck, because then the other players will just get run over. SO I need to build at least 3 amazing decks, and that's tuff. Well not tuff persay it just takes awhile. Especially since everything I am really drawn to is spread out over three sets. It would help if I could get someone into it just enough for them to buy their own cards, that would make my life 5 times easier. Oh well.
I have three decks I really really want to make.
1) An Assemite/Black Hand death deck. This would be a toolboxy/bruise bleed deck. The idea is lots of aggravated damage and focused attacks keep the battlefield more or less the way I like it. II would have enough intercept to make sure that my grand prey doesn't get to uppity, and I would use Fames both as a deterrent from pissing me off and as an offensive tactic. Straight wins would be slightly difficult with the deck but I think with a couple of decently capped Assemites, I could really terrorize the living hell out of the table.
Lucky me! I almost have the crypt assembled. I need a couple of more copies of a few vampires and once I get them I'll be off to the races. I am actually really excited because I love the idea of horrible insta pain damage.
2) A Nosferatu deck. I don't know what I want to do with this deck exactly. The neat thing about Nosferatu is that they can do all sorts of really terrible things to you. Their vampires seem to excist to be just plain old annoying, and they have the capability to be irritating in every aspect of gameplay ranging from combat to voting. The weird thing about them though is that they all have the ability to be balls to the wall combat monsters, on top of being made out of asshole. They are really weird and I am very much looking fowards to using them. It is just that I am not quuuuuiiiiittttteeee sure what sort of deck I should make around them. I could make all sorts of things really. I am thinking of making the vote deck from hell. Ventrue vote decks are way to polite for my tastes. They are certainly effective but they lack the sort of malicious intent that the nosferatu can bring to the table.
3) I want a deck that uses a lot of allies. I think it is going to end up being an African themed deck, I dunno I need to figgure out what is in some of the older african precons, and then work my way through until I can get lots and lots of allies. I'm thinking of a warewolf army because in the current expansion they are plentiful and fun. The other thing that is cool about the current expansion is that it is big on superstar vampires, which is a concept that I can seriously work with.
Ah well I gotta go back and pretend to work now. Adios!
